The Safer Drivers Course is designed to work in conjunction with the current learner log book system.
Currently learner drivers under the age of 25 must complete a minimum of 120 supervised driving hours under a variety of conditions. With the completion of both modules 1 and 2 of the Safer Drivers Course, learner drivers will receive a 20 hour reduction in log book hours (from 120 hours to 100 hours).
If learners combine the 20 hours credit they receive from the Safer Drivers Course with the 20 hours credit they can receive through the Learner Licensing Scheme (where a 1 hour structured driving lesson with a fully licensed driving instructor is recorded as 3 hours in the learner log book - up to 30 hours) learners have the potential to earn 40 hours credit towards their learner log book. Discuss this with your driving instructor.
The Course is available to NSW learners under the age of 25 who have completed 50 on-road driving hours in their learner logbook. These hours do not include those accrued through (3 for 1) structured professional instruction.
The sole aim of the Safer Drivers Course is to ensure young learner drivers are better prepared for the first time they take the wheel on their first solo drive. This works in with the NRMA Safer Driving School's aim of producing safer drivers for life.
The Safer Drivers Course will help ensure learner drivers receive a more diverse learning experience, because they're not just learning from one person, such as Mum or Dad.
