Keys2drive

This FREE lesson is funded by the Australian Government. It is a joint session for both the learner and parent / supervising driver which consists of a theoretical and practical on-road component. This session is designed to help create the ideal learning experience with the aim of developing the necessary decision making skills within the learner to keep them safe on the road.

Terms of booking: Before booking this session you must firstly register with keys2drive and obtain an eight digit registration number at www.keys2drive.com.au. Previous holders of an international driving permit upgrading to an Australian licence are not eligible for a keys2drive free lesson.

In addition, if the supervising driver is available the instructor will take the time to build rapport and explain our progress card and competency rating system. This assists the supervising driver to keep track of the learner's progress and work alongside the instructor to gain best results.

Initial lesson ACT Logbook

Suitable for Canberra customers who hold an ACT Learner Logbook. Choose from initial lesson right through to the final drive or simply pick up part way through when required. During this lesson the instructor will assess the student's skill level and tailor the lesson based on the their individual competency needs. In addition, if the supervising driver is available the instructor will take the time to build rapport and explain our progress card and the NRMA competency rating system. This assists the supervising driver to keep track of the learner's progress and work alongside the instructor to gain best results.

Ongoing lesson

Suitable for existing NRMA Safer Driving School customers who have already completed an Initial Lesson. The instructor will continue with the students training as per the tailored lesson plan discussed at the student's previous lesson. Lesson duration can vary dependent on student's learning needs and topics to be taught. Our instructors will provide guidance around this when discussing next steps and future bookings at the end of each lesson.

Licence test - Learner ongoing lesson

Suitable for ongoing NRMA Safer Driving School customers who would like to use the NRMA vehicle for their learner licence test. Before booking your test with the NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) or ACT Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), you must first discuss your competency with your driving instructor and be deemed competent to do so. At NRMA Safer Driving, we pride ourselves on developing safe driving skills in all our learners which take them well beyond their test. For this to occur students must first complete an NRMA practice test which takes approximately 90 minutes or demonstrate ongoing competent driving behaviours throughout their tuition with us, this will be reflected on their progress card which is issued to every learner during their first lesson.

Terms of booking: If not deemed competent by your NRMA instructor you will not be permitted to use the NRMA Vehicle.

Refresher lessons

These Refresher sessions are aimed to helping licensed drivers refresh their driving skills and regain confidence behind the wheel. During the one-on-one session our instructor will observe your driving skills and provide you with the appropriate feedback to enhance your driving and confidence to help keep you safe on the road. NRMA Safer Driving offers tailored and flexible training options – we make the session suit your needs. These sessions are also ideal for Senior drivers wishing to brush up on their skills before taking their RMS licence renewal test.

Senior Assessment

The RMS requires drivers 85 years and over to complete a biannual assessment. NRMA Safer Driving can provide this assessment in a friendly, stress free environment with one of our qualified assessors.. We offer two combinations of this session, an assessment only, which is 60 minutes in duration and is recommended to seniors who are confident in their ability and are up-to-date with their road rules. The alternate option is 90 minutes in duration which is highly recommended for those that feel they would benefit from having some time to ask questions regarding road rules and enabling the instructor to assess their ability prior to exposing them to the formal assessment. This session can be converted to a Senior Refresher session if the instructor feels a formal assessment would not be appropriate at this point in time. This is the most popular session when applying for continuation of licence status.

Driver rehabilitation

These lessons are designed to assist drivers who have a minor physical or cognitive disability. These lessons should only be booked following consultation with an NRMA Instructor who has completed a Certificate in Driver Rehabilitation.
